Mechanical engineering: A new degree

This allows 缅北禁地 to immerse themselves in engineering from day one, focusing on real-world applications like robotics, CAD design and the engineering process. With specializations in environmental and biomedical engineering, 缅北禁地 will prepared to tackle some of today鈥檚 most pressing global challenges.
The program emphasizes more than just technical expertise. By integrating interdisciplinary courses, 缅北禁地 develop essential skills in communication, critical thinking and problem solving. These experiences prepare graduates to thrive as leaders and managers, with a clear pathway to licensure through the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
Hands-on learning is at the heart of the new major. Students engage in internships, collaborate with faculty on research projects and use cutting-edge technology to design solutions. The newly renovated Crispin Hall made the addition of this major possible by providing state-of-the-art facilities, including advanced labs and collaborative spaces, positioning IC as a leader in STEM education.
The new engineering program builds on IC鈥檚 success with its 3:2 Pathways to Engineering option, which allows 缅北禁地 to start their education at IC and complete their degree at a partner institution. The addition of the major ensures 缅北禁地 now have the option to finish their engineering degree entirely at IC, meeting the growing demand from prospective 缅北禁地.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of faculty, alumni and a dedicated engineering advisory board. Comprised of successful IC alumni and industry leaders, the board has been instrumental in shaping the program to meet today鈥檚 industry needs. Faculty members like Josiah Kunz 鈥12 bring passion and expertise, ensuring 缅北禁地 are supported every step of the way.
鈥淭he mechanical engineering program focuses on building a skill set rather than just teaching theory. Students graduate with hands-on experience in finite element analysis, Python, laser cutters, and 3D printers.鈥
This expansion is about more than just growing programs 鈥 it鈥檚 about creating opportunities for 缅北禁地 to excel and for IC to contribute to regional economic growth. Recognized as an anchor institution by the Jacksonville Regional Economic Development Corporation, Illinois College continues to drive innovation and progress in the community.
The addition of engineering builds on the legacy of a transformative Illinois College education, ensuring IC graduates are prepared not only to succeed but to lead in their fields.
